Short-Distance Tours Becoming a New Favorite: Zhengzhou Listed Among China's Top 10 Cities for Tourism

As residents are encouraged to "stay put" during the 2022 National Day holiday, short-distance tours came to dominate the holiday tourism market.

Affected by the sporadic spread of COVID-19 and the gloomy weather, Henan Province received a total of 39.9585 million tourists during the National Day Golden Week, a year-on-year decrease of 40.14%. The tourism revenue was RMB 19.179 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 40.50%. Zhengzhou received a total of 11.864 million visits, marking an increase of 14.34% over the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday on a comparable basis.

According to data from online travel agencies, during the 7-day National Day holiday, short-distance tours in and around Zhengzhou accounted for 60% of all orders, and the per capita tourism expenditure of short-distance tours increased by nearly 18% compared with that of last year.

With local tourism encouraged, Zhengzhou's tourism market delivered a better performance than during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In this year's National Day holiday, short-distance tours occupied the majority of the market, and travel modes such as family tours, rural tours and self-driving tours gained the favor of tourists.

According to data from Dianping, "Short-Distance Tourist Destinations" has become a popular search term, and Zhengzhou is listed among China's top 10 cities for tourism.

"Bed Tours" making up 60% of orders

During the National Day Holiday, "relaxation hotels" are still in high demand as "Bed Tourism" continues to trend in short-distance tours.

Report shows that local and nearby hotels accounted for more than 60% of total orders during the holiday. Consumers are increasingly willing to pay for hotels: The average spending on hotels in short-distance tours has increased by nearly 10% compared with last year. Notably, hotel prices were more expensive towards the end of the holiday than at the beginning. The average hotel reservation price from October 5 to 7 was 26% higher than that from October 1 to 4.

According to data from Ctrip, during the 7-day National Day holiday, short-distance tours in and around Zhengzhou accounted for 60% of all orders, and the per capita tourism expenditure of short-distance tours increased by nearly 18% compared with that of last year.

Fliggy data shows that the number of hotel reservations in Zhengzhou soared during the National Day holiday, such as hotels surrounding Erqi Square business district, Zhengzhou high-speed railway East Station, Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Fantawild Adventure and Wuyi Park. Among them, the bookings of high-star hotels increased by more than 5 times compared with the Spring Festival, and those of rural bed and breakfasts increased by more than 7 times. There are many scenic spots in Zhengzhou, such as Fantawild Adventure, Shaolin Temple, Fantawild Dreamland, Enjoy Animal Kingdom. Only spots like Henan·Fantastic Theater are popular.

The post-80s generation is still the main force for traveling with children during the National Day holiday, accounting for nearly 50% of total tourists; the post-90s generation ranks second with 25%, increasing by 3 percentage points compared with 22% last year. The average cost of parent-child travel for the post-90s generation increased by 10% year on year. With the growth of the number of people and cost, the post-90s generation has gradually become the main group in the economic market for parent-child consumption.

Ctrip data shows that the ticket orders of local scenic spots accounted for nearly 80% during the National Day holiday. The coverage of Scenic Spot + X products preferred by it increased by 186% and its revenue increased by 130% year on year.
