On the afternoon of August 19, the second meeting of the organizing committee of the 11th China (Zhengzhou) International Garden Expo was held in our city. In the meeting, the relevant participants gave reports on the progress of preparation work for the Garden Expo, deliberated and adopted the overall program for the opening ceremony and the organization & implementation plan for the forum. Ni Hong, Vice Minister of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Xu Guang, Vice Governor, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Cheng Zhiming, Vice Secretary of Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee, Mayor and Director of the Headquarter of Garden Expo Promotion and Development, gave a report on the situation of preparation work for Zhengzhou Garden Expo. Other attendees include: Zhang Yanming, Member of the Standing Committee of Municipal Party Committee, and Secretary of Party Working Committee of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone; Ma Jian, Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone; Wu Fumin, Deputy Mayor; Wang Wanpeng, Secretary General of the Municipal Government.
The 11th Garden Expo remarkably features “Public Expo, Culture Expo, Sponge Expo and Intelligence Expo”, with “lead green development and inherit Chinese civilization” as its theme. It is scheduled to open on September 29 this year and conclude on May 2018. At present, the engineering construction of Expo Park and other major preparation work have been basically completed, the preparatory work for the opening ceremony is in full swing, and the operation and management of Expo Park has comprehensively started.
Ni Hong praised the Expo preparatory work in the precious stage, and pointed out that the Garden Expo is a vivid practice of ecological civilization construction and green development, also a test for Henan’s landscaping achievements and a powerful demonstration of the city image. Zhengzhou should seize the favorable opportunity to further improve ideological stance and go all out to organize the Garden Expo. Zhengzhou must strengthen delicacy management, improve the relevant supporting measures, make all the preparations comprehensively and meticulously before the opening ceremony, and adhere to the quality and speed simultaneously, to turn the Garden Expo to be a grand garden event with advanced concepts, leading technology, strong characteristics and far-reaching influence; Zhengzhou should follow the concept of “holding Expo for people”, give full play to the ecological benefits of the Expo, and strive to make the eleventh session of Garden Expo become an international grand garden event leading green development and inheriting Chinese civilization.
Xu Guang stressed that the preparatory work for Zhengzhou Garden Expo has now entered the critical stage. The task is difficult, and moreover, time is pressing. The relevant provincial departments, especially the Zhengzhou Municipal Government and the Administrative Committee of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, should further unify their thoughts and adhere to the fundamental policies of CPC Central Committee on ecological civilization construction, and perfectly complete all preparatory work and tasks of the Expo with high standards through careful organization in accordance with the requirements of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. They should also effectively enhance the sense of responsibility and urgency, seriously implement the work programs adopted in the meeting, carry out full and in-depth mobilization, quickly give rise to a new climax of preparatory work for the Expo, and successfully hold a world-class garden Expo event, to present a gift for the successful holding of the 19th CPC National Congress.
On behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, Cheng Zhiming expressed his thanks to Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Provincial Party Committee, Provincial Government and organizing committee of the Garden Expo for their careful guidance and great help. He said that the successful holding of the 11th China International Garden Expo will have an important and far-reaching impact on displaying the image of Zhengzhou, improving the quality of the city and promoting the construction of the National Central City. Zhengzhou will further strengthen leadership and co-ordination, overcome difficulties, and complete all preparatory work with high quality and high efficiency, to ensure that the 11th Garden Expo will be a unique, high-level and influential expo event.
Before the meeting, the attendees also inspected the construction work of Zhengzhou Garden Expo Park and preparatory situation of Garden Expo on the site.
The 11th Garden Expo deeply excavates the outstanding traditional culture in the Central Plains, including culture in Xuanyuan’s period, Northern Song, Qin and Han Dynasties, with the aim to create a garden expo carrying forward Chinese splendid culture and inheriting the characteristics of Chinese civilization. The park of the Garden Expo is built following the principle of “One Park and Three Zones”, namely: Garden Expo Park (Zone A, Garden Expo Park), Shuanghehu Central Park (Zone B, Garden Expo Park) and Yuanling Ancient City Heritage Park (Zone C, Garden Expo Park). These three parks take differential positioning, and are planned, constructed and opened at the same time.
The China International Garden Expo, founded in 1997 and jointly held by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Provincial (Autonomous Regional) People’s Government of the host city, is the highest level of international event with the largest scale in China’s landscaping industry. So far, it has been held in Dalian, Shanghai, Xiamen and other cities for 10 sessions.
