Zhengzhou Shortlisted in Top 10 National Prefecture Level Cities Favored by Tourists in Q1 2022

On April 6, the quarterly results disclosure conference of China Tourism Academy (Data Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China) was held online. The joint laboratory of tourism big data of the China Tourism Academy (Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China) and China Telecom released the report Tourist Flow Data for Q1 2022.

The report says that in the first quarter of 2022, tourists in China’s first-tier cities (such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou) and provincial capitals (such as Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, Hefei, Nanjing, Kunming, Guiyang, Xi’an, and Hangzhou) accounted for a significant proportion in the country’s total, while the surrounding cities of these first-tier cities and provincial capitals were becoming important markets for tourists.

The major tourist markets among prefecture-level cities are mainly distributed in the five municipalities directly under the central government and provinces in north China (Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, and Henan), Yangtze River Delta region (Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu), coastal cities of southeast China and the provincial capitals and the same-level cities in southwest China (Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, and Guiyang). Compared with the proportion of inbound tourists, that of outbound tourists of first-tier cities and provincial capital cities shows no prominent advantages, and the surrounding cities around these cities are becoming important tourist markets.

In the first quarter of 2022, the top 10 prefecture-level cities most favored by tourists are Shenzhen, Shanghai, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Haikou, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Foshan, Wuhan, and Beijing.
