The "Reading the Yellow River ? Protect and Carry Forward the Yellow River Culture" Lecture Series Will Be Broadcast Live Online

According to Henan Provincial Library, the online live broadcasting of the "Reading the Yellow River · Protect and Carry Forward the Yellow River Culture" lecture series will officially kick off at 9:30 a.m. on July 22. Ten experts from the Central Plains Culture Research Center of Henan Province[LYY1] , Zhengzhou University will give the audience in-depth interpretations of the Yellow River culture.

This online live broadcasting is sponsored by the Culture and Tourism Department of Henan Province and jointly organized by Henan Provincial Library, Henan Provincial College & University Library and Information Work Steering Committee, the Central Plains Culture Research Center of Henan Province, Zhengzhou University, and Henan Children's Library, as well as the culture & broadcast-TV & tourism bureaus and public libraries across the province. Ten experts from the Central Plains Culture Research Center of Henan Province, Zhengzhou University will be invited to introduce the Yellow River from the aspects of its history and culture, local conditions and customs, economy and society, changes with time, development achievements, etc.

On the morning of July 22, famous archaeologist Liu Qingzhu, who serves as a faculty member of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, dean of the School of History of Zhengzhou University, and president of the Central Plains Culture Research Center of Henan Province, Zhengzhou University, will give the special lecture entitled The Yellow River Culture and the Central Plain Civilization as the beginning of the lecture series.

Then, Zhang Minfu, Ph.D. in History, serving as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University, as well as vice president of the China Society of Ancient Capitals, will give a lecture entitled The Development and Spirits of Henan Merchants in Ancient China, to introduce the long-standing development of Henan merchants and their spirits developed with the influences of the Yellow River culture. Wang Xingguang, professor (second grade) and doctoral supervisor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University, will give the lecture entitled The Yellow River and Science & Technology Civilization, to introduce the science & technology achievements in the Yellow River basin in ancient China. Dai Panghai, Ph.D. in History, serving as a professor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University, will give the lecture entitled A Discursive Talk on the Yellow River Culture, to untangle the concept of "the Yellow River culture", trace its origins and development and explore its cultural characteristics and the spirits in it. Yuan Yansheng, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University, will give the lecture entitled The Yellow River in the Qin and Han Dynasties, which will review the regulation measures of the government on the Yellow River in the Qin and Han dynasties.

Besides, the lecture series also include The Resource Integration and Social Integration in the Late Shang Dynasty given by Gao Xiangping, Ph.D. in History, serving as an associate professor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University; The Yellow River Culture and the Three Spirits of the Central Plains given by Wu Zhiyuan, a doctoral candidate at Nankai University, serving as an associate professor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University and deputy dean of the School; Early China and the Prehistoric Silk Road given by Zhang Li, the associate professor at the Department of Archaeology under the School of History of Zhengzhou University; A Comparison of Origins of Early Money in Europe and Asia given by Zhao Hao, Doctor of Stanford University, serving as an associate professor at the School of History of Zhengzhou University; and The Investigation and Understanding of the Emperor Mausoleum of the Late Zhou Dynasty in Xinzheng of Henan Province given by Zhu Jin, Ph.D. in Archaeology, serving as an associate professor at the Department of Archaeology under the School of History of Zhengzhou University. These lectures will interpret the rich and profound Yellow River culture from different angles to mine its values of the times and reinvigorate the time-honored Yellow River in the new era.
