Songshan Low-Altitude Tourism Base Welcomes the 10,000th Passenger

The “Songshan Flying Club” base in Songshan Shaolin Scenic Area, Dengfeng received the 10,000th passenger of its low-altitude tourism project on October 27. Since the opening of the base, the scenic area has welcomed a growing number of tourists from all over the world to board the helicopters here to enjoy a bird's eye view of the magnificent Songshan Mountain.

Dengfeng, over the recent years, has endeavored to contribute to the strategic decision of the country to fuel the general aviation industry. The city signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Beijing Reignwood Star General Aviation Co., Ltd. to develop its air travel business. At present, an aviation industry park is under construction in the city. According to the information released on the website of Zhengzhou Urban and Rural Planning Bureau this September, the Planning of General Aviation Airports of Zhengzhou in Urban Area, which plans to build a A1 General Aviation Airport in Dengfeng, has been announced to the public prior to approval, marking the formation of the layout of aviation network in the Central Plains. In this regard, Dengfeng, which has opened up low-altitude tourism market, is the first mover to do so in general aviation industry of Henan. It has not only opened the tourism business in Dengfeng, but also filled in the blank of low-attitude tourism in Henan, turning the transportation network of Zhengzhou into a vertical one from a flat one.

From the official operation of Songshan low-altitude tourism business on February 28 to receiving the 10,000th passenger on October 27 this year, a total of more than 2,000 flights were made, with the number of flight on one day peaking at 38. Dengfeng ranks among the top in terms of number of tourists among all flying bases in China.

From January to August 2017, Dengfeng received 9,801,000 tourists, a year-on-year growth of 23.5%, and earned gate receipts of RMB 380 million and total tourism revenue of RMB 7.74 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.6% and of 23.6%, respectively.

The fact has proved the prosperity of Songshan low-altitude tourism business. Riding a helicopter to overlook the Shaolin Temple Scenic Area, pay respect for Buddha in the air and fly through Sanhuang Village Scenic Resort and other prestigious mountains is no longer a dream.

Kong Xiaohong, person in charge of “Songshan Flying Club”, noted that, the low-altitude tourism project, a project available all year around, received 10,000 passengers within such a short period, partly because the rich tourism resources of Songshan Mountain are appealing to tourists at home and abroad, and partly because the masses can afford the flying in their pursuit of a better life.

On May 1, 2017, a new air route to Dengfeng Observatory Scenic Area was opened following the free admission policy of the Observatory; later on September 19, 2017, another new route to Fairy Valley, Daxiong Mountain was opened as well. According to Kong Xiaohong, a variety of themes were given to different flights, including the “paying respect to Buddha” during the Spring Festival holiday, the “flying dream” in summer time, the “red-covered Songshan Mountain ” during the Mid-autumn Festival holiday and the “Happy Family Trip” during the Double Ninth Festival holiday. More affordable themed air routes will be opened in the future so that more tourists can enjoy a flying trip and more aspiring youths who are enthusiastic about general aviation can learn more about the industry and experience the flights, making more people's “flying dream” come true.
