Dongzhao Site Wins the Title of 2014 “National Top 10 New Archaeological Discoveries”

 

The selection of National Top 10 New Archaeological Discoveries, which takes academic value, historical significance and artistic value as the most essential criterion, is the most authoritative prize of China at the highest level in Chinese archaeological circle.

Dongzhao Site is located at south of Zhaocun Village, Gouzhao Township, Zhengzhou Hi-tech Zone, between the west and north of Donggang Village, Xushui Town, Zhongyuan District, covering an area of more than 1 million square meters. The site has been excavated since 2012, till now many great discoveries are made, including Late Longshan Culture, Xinzhai Period, Erlitou Period, Erligang Period of Early Shang Dynasty and Dynasties of Western Zhou and Eastern Zhou. During a long period of more than 2,000 years, the cultural sequence is continuous and complete, which provides an important support for the complete establishment of archaeological culture system in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties in Central China. The discovery proves again that Zhengzhou City is located at the core of traditional cultural region and enjoys a high historical status in the early history of Chinese civilization.
