This year, the “Green City” will turn into the “City of Flowers”. You will be dazzled by the 17 flower shows in the city all through the year. An ecological gallery will be built along the both sides of the main canal (61.7 kilometers) of Central Line Project of South-to-North Water Diversion. Ten gardens will be built and open to the public in downtown Zhengzhou within this year while the underground main work of Youth Park will be accomplished. Zhengzhou Gardening Bureau held a briefing yesterday morning to announce that Zhengzhou would be the host of the11th China International Garden Expo. The park of Garden Expo will be built in Zhengzhou Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone and will cover area that is equal to about half of the park of Green Expo Garden. Citizens will have one more place to go for outing in spring then.

[Planning]Green area in downtown will increase by 5 million square meters this year

This year, the landscaping in downtown Zhengzhou will follow the old routine: building new gardens and extending ecological galleries. Increasing green coverage by extensively planting trees, the green area in downtown will increase by 5 million square meters while 500,000 new trees will be planted. In the mean time, over 30 community parks and roadside green space will be built, making full use of every single space.

This year, the 10th China International Garden Expo (hereinafter referred to as Garden Expo) will be held in Wuhan. As an internationally exalted affair, the 11th Garden Expo will be hosted in Zhengzhou. The selected location is to the south of East Binhe Road, Zhengzhou Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone, to the north of Shangqiu-Dengfeng expressway and to the west of Huizhan Road, covering a total area of 99 hectares, about 1,492 mu. A leading official from Zhengzhou Gardening Bureau revealed that the construction of Garden Expo park would start by the end of May this year.

According to the plan, Garden Expo park will be officially open in September 2017. The leading official said, “Although Garden Expo park is only half the area of Green Expo Garden, these two places share some similarities. In the future, there will be two “Green Expo Gardens” in Zhengzhou, providing more choices for those citizens to go outing”.

[Gardens] Several gardens will be built and open to the public by the end of this year

It is required to build comprehensive parks of 100,000 square meters (150 mu) every 15 square kilometers in the old city and every 10 square kilometers in the new city. In accordance with such requirement, following the principle of balance, with green space service radius of 500 meters, 27 planned comprehensive parks of district level will be built in the enclosure scope of the 4th ring expressway (West 4th Ring Road-South 4th Ring Road-Zhenggang Avenue-Dahe Road) and Zhengzhou Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone (not including Shangjie District).

By the end of this year, 10 out of the 27 comprehensive parks will be built, which are People’s Cultural Park (Jinshui District), East Chenwu Village Park (Zhongyuan District), Zhengxin Park (Guancheng District), Huiji Central Park (Huiji District), Jinhe Park (High-Tech Zone), Tianjian Lake Park (High-Tech Zone), Zhengxin Park (Zhengdong New District), Binhe Sports Park (Economic & Technology  Development District), Zhenghong Central Park (Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone) and Youth Park (Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone). And the main work construction of another four parks will be accomplished by the end of this year, namely, Citizen’s Park (Zhongyuan District), Yangjin Park (Jinshui District), Meihe Park (Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone) and Sports Park (Zhengdong New District). Youth Park and West Wuhe Park are both multilayer parks, and the construction of their main work of underground space development will be completed earlier than those of others.

Zhengzhou downtown section and Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone section of Central Line Project of South-to-North Water Diversion is about 61.7 kilometers. Along both sides of the main canal, a scope of 200 meters will be planed and built as ecological cultural parks of South-to-North Water Diversion. The total construction area of downtown section is about 13.08 square kilometers while that of Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone section is 11.6 square kilometers. After construction, the total green space will cover area of 24.68 square kilometers.

By the end of this year, Zhongyuan District, Erqi District and Guancheng District will see the completion of model section construction; and Zhengzhou Airport Comprehensive Economic Experimental Zone will accomplish the model section of 7.6 kilometers. The main canal section of 61.7 kilometers in downtown will be fully started and the planting will be finished.

Zhengzhou will be built as a “sponge” city, experimenting with green space first. The leading official from Zhengzhou Gardening Bureau introduced that they would plan on building or rebuilding a series of sunken rain-collecting green space. The idea of “sponge” will be adopted when they design the road that will be upgraded for landscaping and during the landscape upgrading of People’s Park, Redbud Hill Garden and People’s Square. Instead of running into side well, rainfall will infiltrate into the ground and supplement underground water.

Some time ago, Dahe Newspaper reported that the disaster prevention system in Xiliu Lake Park was completed. By the end of this year, 7 disaster prevention parks will be built in Zhengzhou. Two out of the seven parks, namely, People’s Park and Nanhuan Park, are at municipal level and another five of them, i.e. East Chenwu Village Park of Zhongyuan District,People’s Cultural Park of Jinshui District,Huiji Central Park of Huiji District,Zhengxin Park of Zhengdong New District and Binhe Sports Park of Jingkai District, are at district level.

In addition, 5 ecological galleries will be built by the end of this year, covering a total area of 5.3 million square meters. The 5 ecological galleries include Zhengzhou-Dengfeng Expressway, West Section of Longhai Road (West 3rd Ring Road-Changzhou Road), Jiangshan Road (North 3rd Ring Road-Yellow River Tourist Area), South and North Extensions of Jingguang Expressway and East Extension of North 3rd Ring Road.
