4,000 Shaolin Students Are Preparing for the National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities with Maximum Effort

As the 11th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People’s Republic of China (“National Traditional Games” for short) is drawing near, the rehearsals for the opening ceremony are under intensive preparation. Recently, more than 4,000 Shaolin students were engaged in tense rehearsals under the scorching sun at the training ground of the Tagou Martial Arts School, preparing for the official performances at the opening and closing ceremonies.

As the debut of such a national grand event made in Zhengzhou, the great significance of this year’s National Traditional Games for Henan speaks for itself. As we all know, the tens-of-thousands-of-people Shaolin Boxing of Tagou Martial Arts School is a representative business card of Zhengzhou and Henan, so the responsibility of displaying Shaolin martial arts at the National Traditional Games naturally falls on the shoulders of the Tagou Martial Arts School. More than 4,000 teenagers skilled in Shaolin Kungfu will present 16 performances at the opening and closing ceremonies. Now, these teenagers are doing their best to contribute to the National Traditional Games with maximum passion.

At the Wuhuan Training Ground under the burning sun, some students’ clothes were already soaked with sweat after strenuous training. To greet the 11th National Traditional Games on September 8, those performers who will partake in the opening ceremony are used to toilsome training.

Martial art has long been an indispensable element at the opening and closing ceremonies of large-scale sports events. As a province strong in martial arts, it is the first time for Henan to host the National Traditional Games. It is also the first time for Henan to host a large-scale and comprehensive national sports meeting in decades. Known as the “most renowned martial school in the world”, the Tagou Martial Arts School that has participated in a variety of large-scale events such as the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games and Asian Games, has once again served as the backbone force of the opening and closing performance teams of this year’s National Traditional Games. A team of 4,060 people, including performers, coaches and logistics support personnel, will take part in the opening and closing ceremonies with 10 performances in the opening ceremony and 6 in the closing ceremony. Two large-scale group performances centering on the two main schools of Chinese martial arts — Shaolin and Tai Chi, will stage in the opening ceremony, each with 1,000 participants.
