The Opening of the New Zhengzhou Art Museum and Inaugural Exhibition Activities

A new landmark of cultural activities stands in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province. A series of feasts of painting and calligraphy exhibitions were rolled out synchronously. On October 25, the opening ceremony of the new Zhengzhou Art Museum and inaugural exhibition activities was held. Xu Liyi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee, Zhang Hai, honorary chairman of China Calligraphers Association, Wu Weishan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and curator of the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), and Chen Zhenlian, vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) attended the event.

Wu Weishan praised that the opening of the new Zhengzhou Art Museum is conducive to enriching Zhengzhou residents' cultural life and promoting the development of national art cause. An art museum acts as a palace for art, a platform for exhibition, and a window for culture. The potential Zhengzhou Art Museum has come top nationwide based on the profound traditional culture of the Central Plains and a large group of sentimental and proficient artists. NAMOC will strengthen the cooperation with Zhengzhou Art Museum to vigorously promote the art resource sharing, thus jointly boosting the socialist cultural cause with Chinese characteristics to develop toward prosperity in the new era.

Chen Zhenlian complimented that the series of activities of the inaugural exhibition fully demonstrate that the culture in the Central Plains is long-standing and well-established, inclusive, and magnificent. These activities were themed by contrast, which implied deep-going meanings: the folk custom contrast between the Central Plains and Jiangnan, the cultural contrast between the Yellow River and Jiangnan, and the integration of the north and south cultures. These activities fully displayed that the Yellow River culture and Jiangnan culture link together as flesh and blood, and will have an effect on enlightening the mind and make unique contributions to the times, society, history, traditional art, and aesthetics improvement.

Founded in 1997, Zhengzhou Art Museum undertakes important functions of promoting urban cultural taste and humanistic spirit and enriching public cultural life in cultural development. The new museum is located in the "Four Centers" of the Central Cultural District (CCD) of Zhengzhou, with a total floor area of 23,000 square meters and 7 exhibition halls covering an area of 7,000 square meters and a total exhibition line of 1,800 meters. The inaugural exhibitions include the Selected Collection of Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society, A Leisurely Stroll in the Garden - Exhibition of Calligraphy Works by Li Gangtian, Collection of Ancient Seals and Sealed Clay from Henan Seal Art Association, Context & Choice: Exhibition of Duan Zhengqu's Paintings and Documents 1983-2020, Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Young Artists from Henan, Long Live the Youth: The Nonage of Fine Arts in New China - Exhibition of Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum's Collection and a series of academic and mass activities.

At the opening ceremony, representatives of well-known artists donated artworks to the new Zhengzhou Art Museum.

Jiang Jiding, director of the Culture and Tourism Department of Henan Province, Wang Shouguo, secretary of the Leading Party Group of Henan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Zhengzhou municipal leaders including Niu Weiguo, Huang Qing, Fa Jianqiang, Sun Xiaohong, and Wang Dongliang attended the event, as well as famous artists and persons concerned such as Song Huaping, Wang Hongwei, Qin Tao, Zhang Zikang, Zhang Baicheng, Yang Jie, Liu Jie, Li Gangtian, Xu Xiongzhi, Duan Zhengqu, Wang Zhen, and Pei Fei.
