Intangible Cultural Heritage | Zhengzhou's National Intangible Cultural Heritage Project Adds Luster to the Deyang Lantern Show

From January 16 to February 18, the 14th Deyang Lantern Show was held in Deyang, Sichuan Province to build a cultural exchange platform and expand the development space of integrated culture and tourism. Professionals of Xiaoxiang Lion Dance, a national intangible cultural heritage project of Zhengzhou, were invited to provide training for lion dance groups of Deyang and perform, which were favored by the local people.

The 14th Deyang Lantern Show, with the theme of "Luck-Bringing Rabbit · Raising Deyang", launched over 30 groups of theme lantern exhibitions through lantern shows and temple fairs for the Chinese New Year. Colorful lights and splendid lantern shows presented a strong festive atmosphere. At the Deyang Lantern Show, the team of Xiaoxiang Lion Dance, a national intangible cultural heritage project of Zhengzhou, performed on the ground and with the help of poles, tables and other tools, displaying the features of the intangible cultural heritage such as "new, high, difficult and dangerous". Their wonderful skills including flying, moving, flashing, pouncing and pirouetting won applause from the audience.

It is reported that with a long history, Xiaoxiang Lion Dance was rated as national intangible cultural heritage by the State Concile in 2008, winning the titles of the "Best Lion Dance in the Central Plains" and the "Best Lion Dance in China".
