Introduction to the Scenic Area:
Located in the north section of Songyang Road in downtown Dengfeng and rated as National 4A Tourist Attraction, it is one of the four great academies in the Northern Song Dynasty in China, where Sima Guang, Fan Zhongyan, Zhu Xi and others once authored books and gave lectures. Two famous Confucians in Song Dynasty, Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, founded “Cheng Brothers’ Neo-Confucianism” here, known to the world for Neo-Confucianism. Existing buildings include Xiansheng Hall, a lecture hall, Panchi Pool, Daotong Temple, and an ancient library. There are two 4,500-year-old cypresses, granted the title of General by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, in the academy. Such old trees are rare in the world. The "Tablet of the Tang Dynasty Admiring the God's Virtue in Songyang Taoist Temple", was set up to commemorate a Taoist priest named Sun Taichong in Songyang Taoist Temple who made pills for Li Longji–Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, to cure the disease. It is the largest tablet with inscriptions today in Henan, a key relic protected at the national level, and a world cultural heritage site.
