Songyue Temple Pagoda, located 3 kilometers away from the north of Dengfeng, is the oldest existing pagoda in China. Built in the first year of the reign of Emperor Xiaoming in Northern Wei Dynasty, it has a history of over 1,400 years. Having survived numerous earthquakes, wind and rain erosions, it has not been destroyed and remains intact, standing majestically right there. The pagoda is a rare example among those ancient Chinese architectures. With high value in terms of aesthetics and architectural studies, it is hailed as “World’s No. 1 Pagoda” and has been included into the first batch of National Key Protection Units of Cultural Relics.
