The Shaolin Disciple from Africa

Shaolin Temple, also called Sengren Temple, has the reputation of “the birthplace of Zen and the No.1 Buddhist temple in the world”. It is the birthplace of Zen of Chinese Buddhism and was built in 495 (the 19th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty). 32 years later, Bodhidharma, a famous Indian monk, came to Shaolin Temple to teach Zen theory. The Emperor settled Bodhidharma in Shaolin Temple and provided him with food and clothes. After that, Shaolin Temple was expanded gradually, had more and more monks and became very famous. Therefore, Bodhidharma was regarded as the founder of Chinese Zen Buddhism and Shaolin Temple was considered as the birthplace of Zen.
