As one of the four famous ancient academies in China, Songyang Academy is the earliest and the most influential. It was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty and famous scholars like Si Maguang, Fan Zhongyan, Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao once gave lectures here. The architecture of the academy is classical and elegant. Buildings on the central axis are divided into five courts and the layout of the architecture group is strict,demonstrating Confucian idea of "mutual promotion of courtesy and pleasure". This feature is shown by individual buildings and all the architectures as a whole.
