China (Zhengzhou) Yellow River Culture Month will kick off on April 13. Hosted by the People's Government of Zhengzhou City and organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee and the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, the event will be held at Henan Art Center Grand Theater and Zhengzhou Grand Theater from April 13 to May 6. In total, nine excellent art performances will be staged, with each being performed two times.

Selected from the nine provinces along the Yellow River, these performances are all national award winners covering diverse genres from dance drama and ethnic orchestral music to Henan opera and symphony. By virtue of rich connotation and art language, a broad cultural perspective and thought-provoking academic significance, they will present a visual feast on stories about the Yellow River for the audience. The nine outstanding stage artworks highlight the achievements of literary and artistic creation in the Yellow River basin or reflect the regional ethnic characteristics. Shaanxi province's Qinqiang opera The Story of Xijing has won a lot of awards, such as the Spiritual Civilization Construction Five-One Project Award from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Outstanding Drama Award at the Chinese Opera Festival and the Grand Wenhua Award from then Ministry of Culture. Ningxia province's dance drama One Who Fails to Reach the Great Wall is Not a Hero, directed by the famous director Yang Xiaoyang and starring Shan Chong, vice president of China Dancers Association, relives the red classic and inherits the culture of the Long March. The dance drama Sichuan-Tibet · Ancient Tea Horse Road from Sichuan province and the folk concert The Yellow River Running Through the Prairie from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region show the unique regional culture of Sichuan-Tibet region and the Inner Mongolia Prairie respectively, and extoll people’s simple and sincere feelings as well as deep love for the country.

In addition, Qinghai province's dance drama Follow the Mother River focuses on demonstrating the awareness of environmental protection in the Yellow River basin, the great importance of protecting the ecological environment in the Sanjiangyuan (Three-River-Source) region and the far-reaching significance of promoting and spreading the culture of the Yellow River's source. The large symphonic chorus The Yellow River Flows to the Sea, conducted by the renowned conductor Lin Daye and performed by many domestic musicians and artists at the Lanzhou Concert Hall Chorus from Gansu in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra from Shandong in its lower reaches, reflects the excellent music exchange and integration in the Yellow River basin. It is worth mentioning that the new dance epic The Yellow River from Shanxi Provincial Song & Dance Theater, directed by the well-known director Zhang Jigang in 2020, has been widely acclaimed since its debut. The Yu opera Life of Guan Yu, the final work of the tetralogy of Chinese virtues, "loyalty, filial piety, chastity and righteousness", stars Li Shujian, vice chairman of the China Theater Association and a virtuoso of the contemporary Yu opera. Zhengzhou Song and Dance Theater's dance drama Serving the Country with Fidelity, another masterpiece following A Tale of Shaolin and Goddess of Luo River, shows the heroic deeds of Yue Fei, a general best known for leading forces in the wars between the Southern Song and the Jin dynasty.

In order to ensure the health and safety of the audience, the city's theaters will strictly follow the standard that the audience number should not exceed 85% of the capacity, and carry out real-name security check, temperature check and other epidemic prevention and control measures according to the relevant requirements of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
