On the Occasion of the Opening of International Mayors’ Forum on Tourism in Zhengzhou, China, Domestic and Foreign Guests All Express Their Support for the Event

When spring is coming in Zhengzhou, a grand event of tourism is about to begin.

As an important part of the Yellow River Culture Month, the International Mayors’ Forum on Tourism in Zhengzhou, China 2021 (IMFT 2021) will be held in Zhengzhou from April 20 to 23, 2021.

With the opening of the event, international organizations such as the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Alliance of Mayors and Development Promotion, and countries, including Russia, Germany and Italy, have sent sincere greeting videos to Zhengzhou to express their support for the Yellow River Culture Month and the IMFT.

"We wish the IMFT 2021 a complete success. We also welcome Chinese tourists to visit Uruguay after the epidemic is over and we hope that our two countries will have more exchanges in tourism in the future", said Fernando Lugris, ambassador of Uruguay to China.

Fruzsina Zakariás, director of the Department of International Relations of the Hungary National Tourism Administration, said: "Zhengzhou is a beautiful city with a long culture and history and a beautiful natural landscape, which is in line with the characteristics of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. We hope that our two countries can join hands to showcase the cities' charm to more tourists".

"Zhengzhou is the sister city of Joinville, Brazil. We believe that the two beautiful and long-history cities can work together and cooperate deeply in all aspects in the future", said Gilberto Moura, consul general of Brazil in Shanghai.

"Zhengzhou is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains, and embraces the historical and cultural resources over thousands of years. Tourism industry in Zhengzhou is a great example for us to learn. We hope that China and Germany can exchange the experience and ideas of tourism recovery in depth and work together to promote tourism to a higher level", said Li Chaohui, chief representative of the Beijing Office of the German National Tourist Board.

Over the past few days, guests from home and abroad, including Fernando Lugris, ambassador of Uruguay to China, Fruzsina Zakariás, director of the International Relations Department of the Hungarian National Tourism Administration, Gilberto Moura, consul general of Brazil in Shanghai, and Li Chaohui, chief representative of the Beijing Office of the German National Tourism Board, and Hu Baosen, president of Central China Group, have extended their best wishes to the significant event.

By April 15, the forum has received 36 greeting videos from all over the world, and more wishes and support from domestic and overseas guests are on the way.

Since 2008, the IMFT has successfully held six sessions. Hundreds of mayors from international tourism cities have gathered in Zhengzhou to work together for tourism development, making some achievements such as the Zhengzhou Declaration, the Report on World Tourism Cities' Trends and the Convention of World Tourism City Mayors Alliance, which have become a high-end platform for dialogue between the international tourism industry and international tourism cities, and has been highly praised and widely recognized by the international tourism industry.

Jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Henan Provincial Government, the Forum is supported by UNWTO, the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO ITPO), WTA, PATA and China Tourism Academy. With the theme of "market prosperity and sci-tech innovation to enhance the competitiveness of urban tourism", elites from global tourism industry and various countries' national tourism bureaus will gather in Zhengzhou to discuss the important role of global tourism in promoting economic recovery in the post-epidemic era.

During the four-day event, a number of wonderful events, such as the Tourism City Summit, five tourism symposiums, and the International Tourism City Online Tourism Fair will be hold and four important tourism data, such as the Blue Book of World Tourism Cities 2021 and the Report on the Survey of Tourist Satisfaction of International Tourism Cities, will be publicly shared, which aims to gather the wisdom of mayors from the world tourism cities and authoritative international organizations to jointly explore the infinite possibility of tourism in the sustainable development of cities and promote the investment and cooperation in tourism of international cities.

According to the epidemic prevention and control situation at home and abroad, the forum will adopt the combination of online and offline discussions. The number of present guests will be within 300, and international guests who cannot attend the meeting will participate in the discussion on the forum through online video connection.
