688 Million People Used WeChat to Send and Receive Red Envelopes on New Year's Eve, with the City Snatching the Largest Number of Red Envelopes Being...

Statistics released today on WeChat red envelope on the New Year's Eve of 2018 showed that a total of 688 million users have sent their New Year's greetings via WeChat red envelopes, up 15% from the previous year.

People in Beijing snatched the largest number of red envelopes this year, followed by Chongqing and Chengdu. The post-80s, mainstay of the red envelope craze, received and sent 32% of total red envelopes, while the post-90s, the post-70s, the post-60s, and the post-00s account for 27%, 22%, 10% and 6%, respectively. These red envelopes have brought generations of people closer, who would otherwise be alienated by time and space.

Statistics show that, among all the receivers and senders of red envelopes on the New Year's Eve of 2018, a lady topped the receivers’ list with a record high of 1, 848 red envelopes; another lady from Zhejiang Province headed the senders’ list by giving out 1, 203 red envelopes in a single day.
